The Legends' Heart — Central Chamonix

An apartment within the walls of the former Hôtel de Paris, where Terray, Lachenal and Desmaison were regulars. All of Chamonix on foot. Welcome to The Legends' Heart. A heart, because you are right in the centre of Chamonix, on rue du Docteur Paccard: everything is within walking distance — shops, restaurants, cable cars, the train station, trekking or ski. No car needed. Legends, because this apartment occupies the walls of the former Hôtel de Paris, built in 1894. From 1958 to 1969 it was the gathering place of climbers and of all Chamonix: here you would run into Lionel Terray, Louis Lachenal and René Desmaison, but also Jane Fonda, Roger Vadim and Brigitte Bardot, who came to party at the hotel bar. The top floor, where the apartment is located, was reserved for climbers. The space — a sleeping area and a proper living area, designed so that you feel at home rather than passing through. Fully equipped kitchen, raclette grill, dishwasher. The decor is faithful to that history: paintings of the first ascents of Mont Blanc, a climbing rope turned into a curtain, an ice axe, wooden furniture and a genuine Savoyard shepherd's table. Our mountain library — Frison-Roche, Desmaison — is yours to enjoy.
